Five great shows on Netflix NO ONE is talking about

Never mind your Bridgertons and your Emilys in Paris (what the hell was that?), what about the series and one-offs that seem to have been ignored? Except by us, that is.

I Am A Killer.jpg

1. I Am A Killer

Never mind the likes of Piers Morgan grandstanding killers just to get their faces on screen, this British film crew are so far in the background as to be invisible. In each episode, they interview a killer, usually on death row, then check out their stories before returning to confront them with any discrepancies. Thorough, unsensational and absolutely compelling, it demonstrates how grubby and pointless most murders seem to be.

2. The Bold Type

You loved to hate Emily in Paris, now you can ‘love to quite like despite yourself’ this series about three young women making waves at New York magazine, Scarlet. Written by a Cosmo editor (we’ve done time in those magazines, it seems real to us) it comes over like a younger, less edgy Sex and the City with all millennial boxes ticked. It might drive you mad but if you like girlie trash, it ain’t bad.

Crack.jpg

3. Crack: Cocaine, Corruption and Conspiracy

This fascinating documentary on the crack ‘epidemic’ in the States, where the poorest communities were ravaged by addiction, violence and police corruption, recruits everyone from ex-users and ex-dealers to academics to highlight how, despite Nancy Reagan’s Just Say No campaign, her husband was up to his ears in causing the crisis. It reminds you how loathsome Nancy was, into the bargain.

Pretend It's A City.jpg

4. Pretend It’s a City

Fran Lebowitz. One of those names that you know without quite realising who it is. Well, for your information, it’s a funny old lesbian magazine writer who has made quite a name for herself with her wit, deadpan reactions to the excesses of American culture and unapologetic taking down of, well, all the right people. Martin Scorsese joins her for an ingenious multi-episode bitch-fest.

Selling Sunset.jpg

5. Selling Sunset

OK, so people were talking about this but in case you missed it and in case you like reality trash of the very highest order, let us point you in the direction of the show that has been described (OK, by us) as Strippers Sell Houses. Expensive ones. In LA. Basically, a bunch of women who routinely dress like pole-dancers flog houses worth up to $40m. Oh and tear strips out of each other.
