Love Edinburgh, love a townhouse, totally gonna love Gleneagles Townhouse.

Edinburgh – off-of castle, kilts, smell of hops, University, inspiration for Harry Potter, Greyfriars Bobby, cute pubs that stay open really late, Arthur’s Seat, Alexander Graham Bell, Fringe, neeps and tatties, Hogmanay, burning witches at stakes (not any more!), Dolly the Sheep, whisky (no ‘e’), one of the most beautiful cities on earth, more kilts, we could be here all day – is getting a brand new hotel of the utterly gorgeous kind, and hooray for that.

Gleneagles Townhouse – yep, same people! – will open this coming spring, having taken over the former British Linen Bank – latterly Bank of Scotland – in St Andrew Square in Edinburgh’s glittering and very zhuzhy New Town. Ennismore Design Studio have done the do on the very listed heritage building, and you can see the results in our very handy gallery down there. Nice, right?

And for your well-earned, better-spent money you’ll be getting all-day restaurant The Spence, rooftop bar Lamplighters (those views!), a spa and gym down in the former vault, a very swish members’ club and, if you’re counting, 33 rooms. Which is the pretty much the perfect number of rooms, right?

We’re steaming our sporran as we speak.
