Loafing About

Other headlines considered for this piece included ‘Well-Bred Loafers’, ‘Loafer Life’ and… no actually, that’s it.

We digress. The pertinent question being, ‘to loafer or not to loafer?’ And when we’re talking Baudoin & Lange, it’s a no-loafin’ brainer. Because Baudoin & Lange are pretty much the be-all and end-all of loafers.

Knocking around in some shape or form ever since Norwegian fishermen decided they needed a sensible slip-on for days bobbing for their chippy tea, loafers as we know them have remained the refined man’s go-to for elegant summer nights, chic days up in town, dinners with anyone who’s anyone and some people who are no-one at all, putting your bins out if you wouldn’t be seen dead in a Marks’ slipper, stepping onto a yacht in Mykonos... Other expensive holiday islands are available.

Founded in 2016 by Allan Baudoin and Bo van Langeveld and located in Mayfair’s glittering Burlington Arcade, Baudoin & Lange nailed a gap in the market with their now-iconic ‘Sagan’ range (try them and you’ll know) which has expanded to include woven, tassel, deck and limited edition loafers, and this summer sees the launch of ‘The Rover Collection’, their take on the Chelsea Boot inspired by the spirit of adventure.

And, turns out all the above goes darn pretty with a Maserati.
